Southbound Local

Colleen Heavens is a friend and an author from Philly, and Southbound Local is her monument to the city. The book is a collection of Colleen’s personal Philadelphia stories. Each essay in the book is named after a stop along the Broad Street Line, which informed the design of the cover and table of contents.

As a research fellow for Monument Lab, Colleen spent 10 weeks asking Philadelphians what they thought would be an appropriate monument to the city. She tied each Southbound Local essay to a Monument Lab submission, so we included scans of the original submission slips to end each chapter.

I designed the cover and interior layout of the book.
